Richard E. Mader

Executive Director of ARTS of the NRF

Mr. Mader is the Executive Director of the Association for Retail Technology Standards (ARTS) a division of the National Retail Federation (NRF). ARTS was founded 14 years ago to speed the implementation of technology in retail at reduced costs through standards. Mr. Mader was a founding member and volunteer chairman before becoming executive director in 1999 when ARTS became a division of National Retail Federation (NRF).

Mr. Mader has over 30 years in retail information management, progressing from developer to serve as SR VP and CIO for Boscov's and Bon-Ton Department Stores, and Director of Corporate Systems for Federated Department Stores.

Mr. Mader is recognized as a leader in Retail Information throughout the world. He has made presentations in the U.S., South Africa, Europe, UK, and Japan. He was a member of the Information Technology Council of the National Retail Federation (NRF) for 15 years and continues to serve in an advisory role.

Mr. Mader led ARTS in the developing the Standard Data Model the complete guide to retail data, XML schemas to integration applications within the retail enterprise, standard requests for proposal (RFPs) to guide retailers in selection applications and the Unified Point of Service Standard that allows the connectivity of peripherals from one manufacturer to the POS terminal of another without reprogramming and standard XML schemas to integrate Application to Application within the retail enterprise.
